In these two chapters of Lord of the Flies, we witnessed Simon's death. Simon's death was like that of Christ's. Simon was shown to be the Christ-like figure in the story and He was telling the truth to everyone like Jesus did and he ended up being killed by his own people. I found it ironic that the Lord of the Flies was talking to Simon and Simon found out that the beast is within the human beings, he was killed by the beast in humans.
There was also the part where Piggy thought Jack wanted the conch when they attacked. Jack actually wanted Piggy's glasses to start a fire. Piggy shows that he still has hope when he was telling Ralph to blow the conch and still wants to protect it. But Jack takes Piggy's glasses so thinks shows that there is no civilization at all on the island. The fire has burnt out, the conch doesn't have a purpose, and Jack has Piggy's glasses.
The fire also symbolizes the loss of all civilization and hope. Ralph said to just let the fire go out. This shows that he has lost any hope or faith of being rescued. It also shows that civilization is completely done.
With all of these things gone, Ralph is no longer needed as a leader because Jack has taken his group and become the leader of them.
